Welcome to the memorial page for

Janet Zobrist

March 30, 1924 ~ December 15, 2017 (age 93)

After a wonderful, long life, Janet Dahl Zobrist passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 15, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones.  In life, she was also known as “Grannybird” and anyone who met her felt special. She was born on the family farm in Raymond, Alberta, Canada on March 30, 1924 as the third of eight children born to her parents, Rhonda and Lauretta Dahl.  As a dual citizen, she crossed the border in 1945, swore allegiance to the flag and became a U.S. citizen.  She attended business college and worked in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She married Ernest Emil Zobrist on December 30, 1947 in the LDS Cardston Alberta temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity.  She had five children and raised them in a house of faith.  She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings of teaching, leadership and charitable service where she impacted the lives of thousands of people.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Ernie, and five of her siblings: Mark Dahl, Margaret Leishman, Zelma Lowe, Fern Hicken and Eugene Dahl.  She is survived by her two younger sisters and their spouses: Norma & Lawrence Turner and Diane & Brian Dudley; her brother-in-law, Jack Hicken; her five children and their spouses: Mark & Linda Zobrist, Kristine & Lloyd Benson, Richard & Angela Zobrist, Kathie & Ron Dye and Carol & Walt Parcell; 23 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.  In all, she was the matriarch to 119 surviving descendants and, at almost 94 years old, was content to be the longest living member of her family.  Each of us will miss her warm smile, her kind words and her keen memory. She never forgot a birthday and made everyone feel like they were her favorite.  No one recited William Wordsworth’s poem, The Daffodils, with more feeling, and no ones’ lemon bars are better.  She was a pillar of faith and a friend to all. Her funeral services will be held at 10:30am at the LDS Monte Cristo chapel, 1801 South Monte Cristo on Saturday, December 23, 2017.  Viewings will be held Friday night December 22, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and again on Saturday morning from 9:00am to 10:00am at the same location as the funeral.  After the service, her interment will be at Bunker’s Memory Garden Memorial Park, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
