With deep sorrow, the family of David McShane announce his unexpected passing on March 12, 2021. In his 67th year, David (Dave) died at his home in Las Vegas.
David was born in Montreal, spent his adolescent years in Ottawa, followed by his teenage years in Montreal.
David is predeceased by his father James (Donald) McShane and his mother Susan (Joy) McShane. He will be dearly missed by his only sibling and 'little brother', Ross (Marilyn) and his two nephews, Michael (Kelly) and Trevor, his great nephew Finn, his shelter dog Bubba, and his many friends.
David went to high school in Montreal and then on to the University of New Brunswick where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree, followed by a Master's in Business Administration degree from Pittsburgh University. He moved to the United States at the age of 22 living in several states before arriving in Las Vegas. David's successful career in financial services spanned 45 years until his passing.
David's passion was sports, and in particular hockey. Competitive hockey and football in Montreal were followed by a semi-professional career with the Portland Royals in the Western USA, and then competitive adult hockey which included the World Cup and USA Nationals (earning Silver in 2017)., David went on to coach hockey at the youth and University level in the USA which included a stint behind the bench with the University of Texas Longhorns. David was very proud of his involvement with the Las Vegas Knights hockey organization where he had been involved coaching the Knights youth programs at a variety of levels. He was very proud of his Vegas Knights jacket with "Coach McShane" on the sleeve. He always insured that his players knew that hockey is a game above all else, and that fun and safety comes first.
David will rest at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Smiths Falls beside mom and dad which was his wish.
David will always be in the hearts of his many friends, the hockey community, and his family. His little brother Ross will miss him dearly and will do his very best see to it that the Gold medal at the USA Nationals is eventually won in his big brother's memory.
We love you so much Coach, big brother, friend, and Uncle, and will always have you in our hearts.
Further details of a celebration of life for David will be forthcoming.
